Where should they be? Everywhere!

Actually, that’s not quite true. Gummy Bins® should be everywhere where people chew gum. But that’s still a lot of places:

  • Hotels, pubs, bars and nightclubs
  • Restaurants and fast food outlets
  • Schools, colleges and universities
  • Supermarkets, petrol stations and car show rooms
  • Airports, train and bus stations
  • Offices and conference centres
  • Toilets, washrooms and changing rooms
  • Local authorities and town centres
  • Sporting venues, stadiums, indoor arenas and cinemas
  • Theme parks, tourist attractions and museums
  • Holiday and caravan parks
  • Shopping centres, indoor and outdoor markets
  • Doctors and dentists surgeries, hair & beauty salons, spas

Chewing gum litter is generally worse in gathering places and anywhere with high foot traffic. These locations are where Gummy Bins® are most effective.

Indoor locations benefit most from Gummy Bins installed either side of entrances, exits and frequently used internal doorways, such as toilets, washrooms and lifts.

In outdoor locations, we recommend that the bins are placed back-to-back on lamp posts, for example, and no further than 30 metres apart. Discarding gum after chewing is an impulse decision and if people cannot see a suitable bin in easy reach, they return to ‘normal’ gum dropping behaviour and drop it on the ground.

Sign of the times

Signage is available to accompany the Gummy Bins® and alert people to the fact that the bins are to be used for chewing gum recycling. Installations with signage can be more than twice as effective because they constantly remind people to bin their gum. Signs can carry customers’ logos, anti-litter messages, offers, etc.

Let’s face it. Everywhere with Gummy Bins® will be a more hygienic, pleasant and pleasing place to be. A typical town centre installation can pay for itself in less than three months so there’s no reason not to have Gummy Bins®!
